Put some colour in your life!

Updated: Oct 23, 2022

Well, what an experience that was. I've just finished a day filming as a guest on the Colour in Your Life series. If you have not seen the show before, it is essentially a TV show about creativity. The hosts spend the day with artists from around the world and get to know about the artists, their styles, influences, and techniques. It's a wonderful opportunity to get to see what happens behind the scenes and understand how various artists do what they do.

The day began at about 8:30 when Sophia and Natascha arrived and started converting my lounge room and studio into a set for recording. They certainly fit a lot of gear into their suitcases.

After being mic'ed up and having a bit of a run through of the sequence and questions it was time to film the painting process.

Now, I have to be honest with you, that bit was tough. For me, painting is a very solitary experience. From time to time my kids drop by to chat, but for the most part, it's just me. The other thing about my painting style is that it's kind of slow. I think I spend 60% of my time contemplating how to progress a painting, and 40% of my time actually painting. Some paintings, like those in the Reform series, take weeks to paint, and so tacking a painting in about 6 hours.. well that was going to be a challenge.

Those concerns aside, I threw myself into the challenge and actually managed to get the painting to about 80 percent complete.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished video. I must say it is quite bizarre to think I'll be appearing on the Colour In Your Life series - a series which I have watched since about 2015. Just a few years later, and here I am.

I will post links here and on other social media platforms, once the ports production activities are complete and the edition is launched. (Keep an eye out for my painting ugg boot slippers)
